Duotone
Kite Centre

A base for kite surfers—practical, playful, and brand-aligned

The request was clear: design a kite surfing centre that felt at home in El Gouna but could hold its own next to the Casa Cook brand. It had to serve a serious sporting function while looking like it belonged—both to the kite surfing community and next to the broader identity of the resort. We weren’t kite surfers, but we were ready to learn.

Designed for the elements and the people who chase them

We kept it simple: shelter, view, and practicality. Strong winds shape everything here, so we worked with them, not against them. The layout offered views to the sea and a place to watch the waves roll in. There was room to store gear, to rinse off, to warm up, and to hang around. Inspired in part by Tom Kundig’s work, we proposed a large, moveable door facing the water—equal parts dramatic and useful.

    Unbuilt, but not unloved

It was never built. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth doing. Sometimes a project makes its mark by how clearly it fits its purpose and place—even if it never gets off the ground. This one taught us a lot: about listening, adapting, and knowing when to step back. The feedback from both Duotone and Casa Cook was quietly positive. We were happy with the restraint, the play, and the sense that—even without being built—the journey still added something to our understanding of architecture.
